Police Top Brass In Emergency Meeting Over Boko Haram, Others

IGPnew 600The Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar has convened an emergency meeting with the top echelon of the Police Force, todayat the Force Headquarters Abuja to appraise the overall security situation and the way forward.
Force Spokesman,ACP Frank Mba said in a statement,the meeting stemmed fromconcern over incessant terror attacks, herdsmen/farmers clashes in some parts of the country as well as other forms of crimes and criminality –kidnappings, abductions trans-border banditry, proliferation of arms and ammunition – taking place in the country.
Boko Haram terrorist sect has continued to defy all measures by Nigerian forces.Aside from its regular attacks in the North east, the sect has launched bomb attacks in Abuja ,Jos,Kaduna and Bauchi among others much to the shock of all.The attack on Emab plaza last week was particularly as daring as it was bloody.At least 21 people were killed .Several other injured just as many car were burnt.
Soldiers and other security agents have lost their lives in the fight against Boko Haram and other armed gangs.Attacks allegedly launched by herdsmen have complicated the security situation especially in the middle belt zone especially, Benue ,Plateau, Taraba States.Southern Kaduna has also witnessed mindless killings.
“While urging the zonal AIGs and the Command CPs to evolve new intelligence gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies customized to suit their respective local challenges, the IGP charged the senior officers to improve on their surveillance network and high police visibility across the country and to commence early preparations for the 2015 general elections by conducting adequate threat analysis and intensifying capacity building for electoral policing best practices’Mba said.
The statement said the IGP reminded the Police top brass of the immense trust and confidence reposed in them by the public and charged them to bring their professionalism, skills and experience to bear in the discharge of this onerous but statutory mandate of solving crimes, maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property and ridding the country free of terror, amongst others. He reiterated that the country is passing through one of its most trying moments as a nation and therefore demands of its officers, utmost loyalty and commitment to duty.
Also the IGP assured the citizenry of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to their well being, noting that the Forces will continually do their best possible towards eliminating all threats to internal security of the nation.
