A 61-year-old man, Olabode Olumuyiwa, on Friday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court over alleged N3.7 million fraud.

Olumuyiwa, of no fixed address, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Olakunle shonibare, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between July 2020 and April 2021 at Oke-Ilewo area in Abeokuta.

Shonibare said the defendant fraudulently collected the sum of N3.7 million from the complainant, Mr Lekan Babalola, on the pretext of repairing an excavator valued at N8 million for him.

He said the defendant instead converted the excavator to his personal use and refused to repair it or refund the money to the complainant.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections, 516, 382(2) ,419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Somefun ordered that the sureties must provide evidence of two years tax payment to the Ogun government.

She adjourned  the case until March 26 for mention. (NAN)
