The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Monday warned owners of demolished illegal structures in the territory not to rebuild them.

Mr Ikharo Attah, Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the FCT minister, told newsmen on Monday in Abuja that such rebuilt structures would be re-demolished and offenders prosecuted.

He said the administration had observed that some owners of illegal structures demolished in Gwarinpa Housing Estate and in Mpape community a couple of months ago were rebuilding them.

“I am appealing to those who have built or rebuilt removed structures to remove their new structures because we shall come back soon.

“We shall clear all encumbrances on roads. The FCTA cannot clear a place, prepare it and some believe that we have closed shop for the year.

“We are not closing shop; we are not companies that close shop and go for Christmas. We may likely even work until Christmas Day if the illegality persists,’’ he said.

The minister’s aide noted that enforcement was very expensive, adding that the FCTA was spending much on enforcement to clear the city.

“We spend lots of money to clear the city and after we have cleared an area, people go back to start to rebuild and that is really very bad and painful.

“We discourage that very much; we condemn it strongly,’’ Attah said. (NAN)
