The police on Friday arraigned a 22-year-old, Nuruddeen Ibrahim, in a Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly biting a security guard and stealing a cooking gas cylinder worth N20,000.
The police charged Ibrahim with trespass, theft and causing hurt.
The prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Omatse Justusmi of concept plaza 5th avenue Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on Feb. 24.
Ogada said that the defendant, on the same date criminally trespassed into the Plaza allegedly stole the complainant’s 12kg cooking gas cylinder valued at N20, 000.
He said that the defendant was caught by the security guard, Vincent John but in the process of escaping with the stolen cylinder.
Ogada told the court that the defendant used wood to hit the security guard and bit his finger as a result he sustained injuries.
The prosecutor said that during police investigations, the cylinder was recovered from the defendant and the offence contravened the provisions of sections of 349 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The judge, Gambo Garba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with a surety in like sum.
Garba said the surety must be a GL10 officer in the civil servant .
He adjourned the matter until April 21 for hearing. (NAN)
