Ondo State House of Assembly had passed a total of 20 bills in 2020, including carrying out countless oversight functions, according to Mr Bamidele Oloyelogun, the Speaker of the assembly.
Oloyelogun, who stated this during a plenary sitting on Thursday, in Akure, noted that the bills were fundamental to the development of the state.
He said that the assembly was highly productive in the course of the year, even though it was ”difficult for the public to recognise the assembly’s efforts.”
The speaker stated that the lawmakers, being the representatives of the people, were poised for the development of the state and had done a great job defending the integrity of the state, despite financial constraints.
He thanked the state governor for his leadership style and understanding, without any undue interference in the legislative duties of the assembly.
The speaker urged residents of the state to observe new year celebrations in moderation and follow COVID-19 protocols strictly.
Oloyelogun announced that the lawmakers would proceed on an eight-week recess, commencing from Monday, Feb. 4 -26, 2021.
Earlier, the house had passed four bills for the governor’s approval, which included a Bill to repeal the Ondo State Electric Power Sector Law.
Others were: a Bill for a Law to Provide the Regulations of Outdoor Structure for the Display of Signage, Hoarding and Advertisement in Ondo State and for Connected Purposes, and a Bill for the Establishment of Ondo State Public Service Training Institute and for Connected Purposes Thereto.
The fourth Bill seeks to Amend the Law to Protect and Control Fisheries Exploitation in Ondo State and to Prevent Use of Obnoxious Substances in the Process. (NAN)
