In a condolence message released by his media office in Abuja, the former Vice President recalled that the late Ewherido was a remarkable good, tolerant and patient neighbour, stressing that few men could demonstrate these rare virtues.
According to him, since he had known the DPP Senator as his neighbour, the gentleman had never approached him to complain about any inconvenience caused him as a result of activities in the houses of his neighbours.
Losing such a great gentleman, said Atiku, was a personally touching experience.
The former Vice President said the late Senator’s spirit of good neighbourliness was exemplary, adding that his humility despite the aroma of power and wealth didn’t turn his head.
“Anyone that lived peacefully and respectfully with his neighbours without a hint of suppressed grudges must be one in a million, especially in a country like ours where some big men spare no efforts to be noticed,” Atiku further stated.
He extended his condolence to the Senate President and members of his family and prayed to God to forgive his gentle soul.
In his tribute ,Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has described the death of Senator Pius Ewherido, representing Delta Central Senatorial District as a rude shock.
The Governor in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary said “News of the death of Senator Pius Ewherido came as a rude shock. He had served his people with all his resources and energy and his death has robbed Delta State and indeed the nation of a bright young mind.
Ewherido truly distinguished himself in the Senate with his incisive contributions to debates and will be sorely missed not only by his Constituents but also by others who have come to love his style.
My last official interaction with the distinguished Senator was during his visit to Edo State, as a member of the Senate Committee on Education which went round the state to access the state of our schools, and gave a very positive report on their evaluation of our contributions in the education sector.
I commiserate with my brother, the Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, the Government and the people of the State on this unfortunate death. I also condole with the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark and other distinguished Senators on the death of their colleague and friend.
“I pray the Almighty God to grant the family of the late Senator the fortitude to bear this very painful loss. May He also grant the deceased peaceful rest in His bosom.

Famous human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo said , “I received with rude shock and utter surprise the untimely passing away of my elder brother, friend and leader, Senator Pius Ewherido on Sunday, June 30, 2013 in Abuja.
“Before his untimely death, the distinguished Senator shared the same dream with me and my numerous followers to rescue our dear Delta State from the iron-grip of a small clique that continues to appropriate our common patrimony to themselves and their families.
“I eagerly looked forward to working with him one way or the other to realize this dream. But alas! God had other plans.
“On behalf of myself and the Delta Forces United, I send my heartfelt condolence to his family, his colleagues in the Senate and the Delta Central People in general.
Keyamo said ,”As a mark of respect, the Delta Forces United will suspend all town-hall meetings for the time being.
