Union leaders of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria,(Federal Inland Revenue Service ) FIRS Unit Executive Committee, have assured the federal government that the 2013 revenue target is not under threat.The union ‘s position was part of a communiqué reached during an enlarged exco meeting ,Newsdiaryonline.com has learnt.
A copy of the communiqué, signed by ten union leaders said among others “that the 2013 government revenue target set for the service will not be threatened in terms of collection as the staff and management are committed and united in making sure that the service meets its statutory obligation as usual”.
Those who signed the communiqué include Comrades Kenneth Efiong, chairman Lagos Mainland region,Weje Collins, chairman South/S region,Kwatu A.Farida,chairman North Central region,Sha’aibu U.W,chairman North East region,Chime Donald S,Chairman south east region and Adamu Mohd Yunusa,chairman north west region.Other signatories include Comrades Ojo A.O,chairman Lagos Island region,Enobun A.B chairman western region,Barrister Sason Okere,national chairman and Lekwot Thomas Friday,national secretary.
Newsdiaryonline.com learnt that the assurances by the union leaders have debunked claims that there may be a threat to set targets.Sources in fact revealed that claims of underperformance at FIRS were grossly unfounded.One source revealed that the service has been exceeding its revenue target instead.
For example, available records show that FIRS exceeded it target for April 2013.Though the service had a revenue target of N1.489 trillion ,FIRS under the leadership of Alhaji Kabir Mashi exceeded the target as it collected N1.565 trillion.In April 2012 for instance, though the target was N1.211 trillion, FIRS collected N1.557.This progress has been made due to the result-oriented leadership provided by Mashi, the acting chairman of FIRS ,an insider said.
