FG Targets 20,000mw of Power, Approves Fresh Injection of $3.7 billion

Namadi-Sambo- 600The Federal Government, last week approved the sum of $3.7 billion to improve power transmission so as to wheel 20,000mw,a press release by Vice Presidential Spokesman,Umar Sani said.

Sani said this was disclosed by the Vice President, Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo at a meeting with Nigeria Canadian association greater Toronto area. At the interactive session attended by a mammoth crowd, the Vice President took time to explain the happenings in Nigeria in terms of infrastructural as well as social development .

He noted that the President Jonathan administration was committed to the provision of the necessary infrastructure and that efforts are being exerted in the areas of power supply, transportation ,aviation , ICT , agriculture ,provision of affordable healthcare services, addressing the educational advancement issues and the provision of good governance.

He called on members of the diaspora to come home and be part of the new horizon . He appreciated the contributions of the diaspora to national development and said that it was in recognition of their contributions that a diaspora bond of one billion naira was set up and requested them to key in to such a laudable initiative .

Earlier the President of the Nigeria Canadian association, Fabian Nwoha expressed the desire of the association to contribute positively to the development of the nation but were reluctant due to the reported negative incidences and other vices.

He noted that with the new development being witnessed they were confident in the ability of government to deliver on their promises. He used the occasion to remind government on its promise to provide a consular office in Toronto so as to help ease emerging diplomatic issues.

The Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada Dr. Ojo Madueke was full of encomiums to the Canada Nigeria association stating that they represent the future Nigeria that will import their talent and know how into the country .

Highlights of the events were questions and answer sessions which focused on security, voting rights, women’s rights, corruption and infrastructural development .

Present at the occasion were the Governors of Akwa Ibom and Kaduna States and the ministers of education , internal affairs , state works and the PDP national chairman.
