The commencement of trial of three men charged with armed robbery was on Wednesday stalled before an Igbosere High Court, Lagos, due to the absence of the first prosecution witness.
The defendants, Ebelebe Ajiroghene, John Ewache and Benjamin Odakpe, are standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.
The defendants were arraigned on April 17 and were remanded in prison.
At the resumed hearing, the Lagos State prosecutor, Mrs M. M. Oshodi, told the court that the witness was on his way to the court.
Justice O. I. Akinkugbe, adjourned the case until May 22 for trial.
Earlier, the prosecutor told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences on Oct. 11, 2017, at 6.30a.m, at Charley Boy bus stop, Gbagada area of Lagos.
She said that the trio “while armed with a gun, knives and aboniki balm, robbed two men, Abiodun Akinnibosun and Abiola Akintola”.
Oshodi said that the defendants robbed Akinnibosun of his phone, wristwatch and N270, 000 cash which was withdrawn from his account at the time of the robbery.
She also said the trio robbed Akintola, the second victim of his wristwatch, techno phone, an ATM card and a cash of N1, 700.
The offences contravened Sections 297 (2) (b) and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
