A Judge of  the Federal High Court Abuja , Abdul Kafarati  has nullified the election of  Olagunsoye Oyinlola as the national Secretary of Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP.The judge ruled that due process was not followed in the  Oyinlola’s election .

But  the sacked national secretary’s lawyer Toyose Oyekunle  reportedly hinted that he would  appeal against the ruling. He also noted that “The whole world saw the PDP National Convention held in Abuja where Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola was elected National Secretary,” he said.

Oyekunle recalled that “The election was conducted in the open at the Eagle Square Abuja and one wonders how the court arrived at its decision that Prince Oyinlola was elected at the Zonal Congress held in Oshogbo, Osun State”.

The sacking of Oyinlola represents the latest twist in the series of internal crises rocking the party. Its Adamawa chapter has been embroiled in the struggle for and against the congresses in the state. And in a curious twist, some members of the National Working Coming rebelled against Bamanga Tukur ,the national chairman by denying ever authorizing the congresses contrary to earlier reports.

After a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the presidential Villa earlier in the week ,Tukur said the issues had been resolved. The  governors are also known to be at daggers drawn with the national headquarters of the party.

But the   failure  of the party to elect a chairman of its Board of Trustees is believe to be the ‘crowning height’ of its internal wrangling.Newsdiaryonline.com has reported that former Vice President Alex Ekwueme may become the BoT chairman in February when the next meeting will be held.

Whether the Oyinlola affair would eventually be settled as a family matter as the party is wont to remains to be seen.
