#Tracknigeria: The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir, has urged the Federal Government to marshal out concrete plans that would wipe out smuggling and consumption of hard drugs in the country.

The monarch made the call when he received Hajiya Sadiyya Farouq of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, who paid him a courtesy visit at his palace on Monday in Katsina.

He said that there was a very strong link between increasing crimes and consumption of hard drugs, as such tackling the menace would help reduce security challenges in the country.

“Security agencies should handle the issue of drug abuse and peddling with iron hands so as to save the youths from becoming victims of the menace.

“As a Royal Father who have contacts in my domain, we have discovered that illicit drugs influences most youths to committing crimes.

“The numbers of Boko Haram, Cattle Rustlers and Kidnappers, all indulged in the consumption of hard and illicit drugs,” the emir said.

Kabir called on all Nigerians to join governments in the fight against drug abuse, including its peddling and consumption.

He maintained that members of the public should not shield or protect drug peddlers and barons, adding that the public should expose them and all those engaged in criminal activities to security agencies.

“Government should review the laws on drug peddlers in order to contain the trend.

“Government should also handle the issue of corrupt Customs, NDLEA, Police Officers who receive bribes to provide cover for the criminals,” he said.

Earlier, Farouq, commended the Emir for giving support to the victims of flood and wind storm in the state.

“We are happy with the support and assistance given to the common man by the Katsina Emirate Council.

“We are in Katsina to provide relief materials to the victims of Jibia flood disaster that occurred during the raining season of 2018,” she said. (NAN)
