A man, Musa Dalhatu who on Tuesday attempted to commit suicide by climbing a telecoms mast beside the Federal High Court at the Maitama district of Abuja has been rescued by security operatives.
According to eyewitnesses, Mr Dalhatu had ignored appeals from people who saw him climbing the mast around noon. He threw a note down, claiming he climbed the mast because he wanted people to intervene in a dispute between him and a prominent Nigerian.
Security agents had a hectic time trying to control the crowd that gathered to watch the spectacle.
Those around the mast were initially gripped with fear thinking that the climber went up with a bomb.
The spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency, Yushau Shuaibu, confirmed the development, saying an official of the agency had been trying to persuade Dalhatu to come down from the mast.
