Zamfara state government has ordered the 14 local government council chairmen to put aside all projects concentrate on security.
The order was issued out on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello Dankande during the distribution of motorcycles to members of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in the state.
He said, the measure was necessary in view of the increasing security threat perpetrated by armed bandits and kidnappers in the state
“The only projects you can now carry out apart from security matters are those that concern health care delivery, education and the provision of safe drinking water, ” he said.
Dankande said, the recruitment of 500 civilian JTF members from each of the 17 emirate councils of the state had drastically reduced the activities of the bandits in the state.
He noted that since the 8,500 youths were selected from their respective communities, they know all the possible criminal hideouts and that “they now lead members of the conventional security to the possible ambush points and this system has helped in the dislodgement of the hoodlums.”
He said the motorcycles were. meant for operational purposes of the JTF members and should be returned to the emir’s palace at the end of every operation.
He also said the sum of N500, 000 would be released monthly to each of the emirates for fueling and maintenance of the motorcycles. With reports by NAN
