As the Deaf Eagles look forward to defending their title at the 8th West Africa Deaf Football Challenge in August, the team’s Coach Kamiludeen Banjo, has appealed for support from well-meaning Nigerians.
Banjo said on Friday in Lagos that they would have loved to play friendly matches but lacked the means to organise any.
The competition would hold from August 3 to August 15 in Niger Republic.
“The championship is getting competitive yearly and this year will not be an exception being the 8th edition of the event.
“The other countries participating sees Nigeria as a big threat in the competition and that is why we have to enhance our preparation and make it timely.
“We have plans of organising competitions and playing few friendly matches to select the best and put the team in shape.
“We need all the support we can get from the government and private organisations to defend the title,’’ he said.
The Deaf Eagles defeated hosts, Mali 2-1 in the final of the 7th edition in 2017 in Mali.
Since its inception in 2010, Nigeria have won the championship four times, including the maiden edition, and emerged as runners-up in 2014 and 2015 respectively. (NAN)
