The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has cried out that they lose N746 million every month due to the non payment of electricity bills by consumers.

The General Manager of Corporate Communication, Ogebode Fadikpe made this claim in Minna during the stakeholders meeting organized by the state Committee on AEDC monitoring and sensitization.

According to him, although AEDC’s monthly collection is N1.2 billion, only N490 million is being collected.

Fadikpe appealed to customers as well as the state government to understand with them, saying the amount of energy allocated to them was not enough for the states they serve.

“The amount of energy we receive is not enough for the population; over the years, the population have grown but the power sector have not grown in anyway,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Niger state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Ketso on Tuesday accused AEDC of intentionally denying the state electricity.

He said he would not support his people to pay electricity bills that they do not enjoy.

“It is a intentional act that AEDC is not supplying us in Niger state with electricity. You are not giving us light and you want us to support you, it is not possible.

“We cannot support what you are doing to our people. You keep promising and doing nothing, we cannot keep going back and front. Please AEDC, we need light, once you make light available for us, we can assure you that our people will pay their bills.

Also reacting to AEDC claim of loss, the Chairman of the Committee, Bala Muhammed Dzukogi said the company is not making any loss as they do not seem concerned about the non payment of electricity bills by the consumers.

“If they are making losses, they seem unconcerned which means they are receiving money from an external source, if not, as an investor, you will do your best to ensure the people have the services that will encourage them to pay for the services,” he said.
