Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko is to sponsor two hundred Primary and Junior Secondary School teachers to undergo a four-week Train -The -Trainer (TOT), Programme in order to curd incidences of mass failure in examinations.
A statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani said the gesture was to ensure that Sokoto students were prepared to pass the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), National Examinations Council (NECO), Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) and other examinations.
“The training package is modeled to deal with the main cause of the problem and provide plausible solutions to it. The problem has recently featured during the Nigerian Senate Proceedings, hence, informed my sincere intention to wade in and help in swiftly  reversing the ugly trend,” Wamakko said.
The course, which is scheduled to be conducted at the Sokoto Science College (formerly Sokoto Teachers College, STC) is to prepare the teachers to effectively teach the students the contents of foundation lessons in the English and Hausa languages and Mathematics.
”This is to specifically designed to address the problems of carry-over of deficiency in readiness for learning from a lower to higher level of the school system. This is the cause of perpetual and widespread falling standard of education. This is in turn the cause of mass failures in WAEC and other external examinations by Nigerian students,” the statement further said.
