Non-teaching staff members of the Faculty of Arts, University of Calabar, have been charged to embrace innovative ideas geared towards the growth of the faculty and the university at large.
The Registrar of the institution, Mr Gabriel Egbe, gave the charge at the senate chamber of the institution during a training workshop organised for non-teaching staff of the Faculty of Arts on Monday in Calabar.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the topic of the workshop is: “Repositioning the Non-Teaching Staff of the Faculty of Arts in University Administration for Effective Service Delivery”.Egbe, who identified innovative ideas as key to effective service delivery, urged the non-teaching staff to always put in their best in the discharge of their duties in order to enable the institution achieve its lofty goals.While thanking the faculty for the timely training of their staff, the registrar urged participants at the event to take advantage of the gains of the training and change their poor attitude to work.“
As non-teaching staff in the university, let us be aware of the fact that we have academic components. What this means is that whenever duty calls on us, we should endeavour to work assiduously in wherever position we find ourselves.“I urge us to participate fully in this workshop and put the knowledge gained into use,” he said.Earlier in his remarks, the Sub- Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr Emeka Ekeke, said that the training was designed to reposition the faculty in the administrative setting for efficient service delivery.
While frowning at the attitude of some of the staff, Ekeke said that although there were constant complaints of truancy and carelessness among many staff in the discharge of their duties, there were still few who were committed to duties.He said the administration of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, was working hard to transform the university into a world-class tertiary institution, even as he underscored the need to have a solid, trained, motivated and productive workforce.
NAN reports that the training workshop featured paper presentations from resource persons including: a legal practitioner, Mr Emmanuel Uddor and the Director of Council Affairs, University of Calabar, Mrs Uduak Akang.The resource persons spoke on key administrative issues and work ethics geared towards the growth of the university.
