A 47-year-old transporter, Teslimi Amusat, was on Wednesday remanded in Kirikiri Prison on the order of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing a man of Tecno phone valued at N 12,000 at gun point.

Amusat, whose residential address is No. 15 Lerato St., Meiran, Lagos, was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, ordered that a copy of the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Layinka remanded the defendant in Kirikiri Prison, pending advice from the DPP and adjourned the case till May 9 for DPP’s advice.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, ASP Akeem Raji, had alleged that the defendant armed himself with a locally-made gun and robbed one Mr Segun Adeoye of his Tecno Camon F9 valued at N12,000.

Raji told the court that the defendant committed the offences with one other person still at large on Jan.12 about 10.30 p.m. at Abule Egba, Lagos.

He said that the complainant was waiting for a vehicle when the defendant came on a motorcycle, blocked him and snatched his phone from him at gun point.

“The complainant reported the case at FSARS, Iju Ishaga Division.

“The Police informed the complainant after the defendant was caught and a local gun was found in his possession,’’ the prosecutor said.

The offences violate Sections 297 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that conspiracy attracts two years imprisonment, while robbery attracts a 21-year-jail term if convicted. (NAN)
