#TrackNigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared as inconclusive the gubernatorial election in Sokoto.
The Commission’s decision followed cancellation of results in 136 polling units in 22 local governments of the state, which totaled 75,403 votes, which surpasses the total votes difference of 3,413 between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Newsdiaryonline reports that at the end of the collation, the candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal scored a total of 489,558 votes while that of the APC scored 486,145 votes.
All eyes are on Sokoto’s result because former Speaker,House of
Reprsentatives,Aminu Tambuwal is the incumbent governor.His defection from APC
to PDP prior to the General elections has also stimulated further interest in
his political future.
Declaring the election inconclusive, the State Collation/Returning Officer, Prof. Fatima Batul Mukhtar said “since the margin of win is far below the cancelled votes, I hereby declare the election inconclusive.”
