Stakeholders in the education sector have agreed to retain the 2014/ 2015 national cut off mark as bench mark for admitting candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) into various degree and non degree programmes in the 2015/ 2016 academic year.
The 2015 Combined Policy Meeting on Admission to Degree, National Certificate on Education (NCE), and National Diploma held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Abuja on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 unanimously adopted the cut off marks even as the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Macjohn Nwaobiala who chaired the meeting warned the various institutions to abide by the decisions in processing the admission and to complete admission processes on or before October 31for the next session , failure which will attract sanctions
The Combined Admission Committee also agreed that 60/ 40 percent ratio be adopted for admission of candidates into degree programmes in sciences, while 70/ 30 percent should be used for technology and non technology courses in the polytechnics.
Earlier, the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Dibu Ojerinde had taken the stakeholders through a detailed analysis of the outcome of the last UTME in terms of candidate’s performances in terms of the spread of applicants and choice of institutions.
Prof Ojerinde also announced that the body of Committee of Vice Chancellors have agreed to a proposal on possible admission of candidates rejected by institutions of their choice for lack of space but who passed very well to be considered by other institutions that may be interested in such candidates. To this end, Professor Ojerinde said that vital information about the rejected candidates would be made available to the institutions including the telephone numbers.
