Senate Directs Committee To Probe Fuel Scarcity

The Senate on Thursday directed its committee on up and down stream sector to investigate the persistent problem of fuel scarcity and report back its  findings next week.The directive was given after the issue was raised at the plenary by the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Abdul Ningi through point of order.

According to Ningi, the legislators and Nigerians need to know what is responsible for the current problem of fuel scarcity in most parts of the country. “We still have the mandate of the people till June 4th. We need more information’s on the current causes of fuel scarcity” Ningi said

He submitted that the upper chamber of the National Assembly should  direct its  committee on up and down stream to investigate what is going on and report back to the Senate next week.

Ningi said this will also allow Nigerians to know what is really responsible for the problem of fuel scarcity in the country.

Before putting Ningi’s  submission into voting, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said since the matter was raised under personal explanation, it cannot be discussed in the plenary by the legislators.

The Deputy Senate President then put the matter to voting and it was unanimously agree by the legislators that the Senate committee on up and down stream sector should investigate the persistent problem of fuel scarcity and report back to the Senate on Tuesday next week.
