Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state has reacted to an alleged threat by President Goodluck Jonathan that the ruling party would use the power of security agencies in the state to win the February election.
He reacted to the threat during the All Progressive Congress (APC) campaign rally on Thursday at Shagari town in Shagari local government area of the state.
According to Wamakko, “I listened to someone who spoke on behalf of the President that they are the ruling party; that they control the security agencies and that they would use these to win election. Let me tell them loud and clear that if they control the security agencies, we have God on our side.”
He stressed that neither the APC nor any of its members or supporters would be intimidated into succumbing to the threats of the Presidency.
Wamakko warned that at this time when decorum was being employed in the conduct of electioneering in Nigeria, some stooges were still being employed to make comments that lacked civility in a democratic setting like ours.
While describing such threats as “empty,” the Governor called on party supporters to disregard such and tirelessly for the success of the party at the polls.
Wamakko added however that for the APC to utilize the support it was now enjoying in the state, “every eligible voter must ensure that he has acquired his voters’ card, without which your support. Is meaningless.”
President Jonathan, through the former National Chairman of the party, Dr. Bello Haliru Muhammad had said on Wednesday in Sokoto during the PDP governorship campaign rally that the party would leave nothing to chance to win election in February.
“Nothing will be left to chance in securing victory. We have the power because we are the ruling party; we have the strength; we have the Soldiers; we have the Police; we have the Civil Defense; indeed, we have all security apparatuses and power at our disposal to deal with the opposition,” Dr. Muhammed had said.
