Chief Godson Ezenagu, Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency says the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will face shocking defeat in Anambra at the general elections.
Ezenagu, a former chieftain of APGA and leader of the party in his constituency said this while speaking with newsmen in Awka on Thursday.
He said the February election would not be business as usual for APGA which had dominated the state since 2003 adding that personality and integrity, would determine voting choice of electorate.
Ezenagu, who said he left APGA with over 50,000 loyalists into the SDP, said his former party lost its chances at the polls when it nominated unpopular candidates during the primary elections.
“We had a gentleman agreement to support whoever emerged at the primary elections if it was conducted fairly and freely but we saw hell in APGA.
“But the exercise was tilted to favour a non APGA man who just joined the party, recall that all the four real APGA members walked out of the primary election because it was a Kangaroo.
“We wrote a protest letter as aggrieved members but it was not treated by the party hierarchy, they did not play to the rule of the game so we left.
“I joined APGA in 2002, I was the leader of the party in my local government, I ran for the House of Representatives in 2015 and won but it was stolen by my opponent.
“Because I enjoy the full support of my people who overwhelmingly voted for me in 2015, they urged me to join SDP so that they can deliver me.
“APGA is losing a lot now because I nurtured the party, I moved with about 50, 000 supporters into the SDP and we are still counting because more are joining,” he said.
Ezenagu described SDP as formidable party in Anambra adding that his chances of winning the election were hugely promising.
The candidate called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible, free and fair election that would reflect the political choices of the masses.
“SDP is the next powerful party in Anambra beside PDP, APC and APGA but the game has changed for APGA, issues, personality and integrity not party will determine the votes.
“It is no longer going to be business as usual; after this election, leaders of APGA will have learnt their lessons on how not to treat people.
“My popularity is soaring, I am the one to beat in the election and I depend on the people to win this election if the peoples vote is allowed to count.
“I call on INEC to give us free, fair and credible election; they should let the votes of the people to count, that is what we are asking for,” he said. (NAN)
