Senator Bukola Saraki and his loyalists were absent at the meeting convened by the All Progressives Congress ,APC to adopt the party’s candidate for senate president Saturday night.
It was learnt that the Saraki faction of APC senators elect had earlier in the day promised to boycott the process .
Despite the boycott, APC National Secretary, Mallam Bala Ibrahim Gubi declared the proceedings of the meeting opened Saturday night at the venue in Abuja.
Senator Barnabas Gemade,representing Benue North District nominated Ahmed Ibrahim Lawal from Yobe north as the senate president .It was seconded by senator Oluremi Tinubu who is the wife of APC national leader from Lagos.
Also, Senator Robert Ajayi Rufus from Ondo north nominated senator George Akume from Benue state for the post of deputy senate President, which senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna north district seconded.
Newsdiaryonline orrespondent observed that out of the 59 APC senators-elect , only 36 were present at the meeting.
As at the time of filing this report, the meeting arranged by APC was still in progress.
