Sambo’s Wife Inaugurates Health Project In Suleja

Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Dr. Amina Namadi Sambo yesterday inaugurated a Health project called ‘I Care Women and Youth Initiative Big Sister project’ at the Emir’s palace in Suleja.
This project she said, is not only a community service but also service to humanity, which will reach out to young pregnant sisters in the community, escorting them to the healthcare facility and even checking up on them at home ensuring an upscale in access to antenatal care service, HIV counseling and testing as well as anti-retroviral therapy if necessary.
“The ‘Big Sister Project is being launched here in Suleja today for just this cause. To improve the situation, we have chosen to return to our roots, using an age-old method to help solve our contemporary challenges. Our values and even religions enjoin “the older women to teach the younger ones”, she said.
Hajiya Sambo said 20 Big Sisters have been selected from across the 10 wards in Suleja. “These women who are influential in their immediate environment will work with us to ensure that the womenfolk are better educated on, and encouraged to regularly access the services available”.
She also said that organisation such as Management Sciences for Health, that are collaborating are pooling resources to bring down the cost of consultancy, treatment and medication so that each women can live a healthier and better life particularly as it pertains to HIV/AIDS.
Hajiya Sambo appealed to husbands to allow and support their wives to co-operate with the Big Sisters and the health care facility personnel who are available to help them.
The Emir of Suleja, Mallam Awwal Muhammad Ibrahim praised the efforts of the group as they flagged off the ‘Big Sister Pilot Project in his domain and assign all Suleja resident to be part of this historic event.
“Our objective as a nation should be to totally eradicate the occurrence of new cases of HIV infection and we will ensure a healthy existence for all”, the Emir said.
