The Police Service Commission today Monday, May 11, 2015, received the acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase and the Management team of the Nigeria Police Force with a promise to do everything within its powers to raise the morale of the Officers and Men and the overall efficiency of the Force.
Chairman of the Commission, Mr Mike Mbama Okiro, retired Inspector General of Police, who conveyed the Commission’s position, said the Commission will look into the possibility of expanding the establishment of the Force to accommodate more promotions and reduce stagnation in the Force.
The visiting acting Inspector General of Police had earlier complained of stagnation in the Force where he said some Officers had been on one rank for upwards of eight to nine years because of non availability of establishment vacancies, a development he said had seriously affected the morale of the Officers. He had appealed to the Commission to assist the Force in ensuring that more establishment vacancies are created to cater for the backlog of promotions in the Force.
Okiro also admitted that Nigeria was under policed and noted that there was need for urgent recruitment into the Force to ensure that the nation is well policed. He agreed with the acting IGP that there was need to replace lost Officers who may have died in the course of duty.
Mr. Arase had earlier told the Commission that the Nigeria Police Force has been losing its men stressing that about 20 to 30 Policemen are lost every month in Nigeria. These Officers are hardly replaced, he said, adding that this has affected the strength of the Force.
He appealed for urgent recruitment into the Force to ensure that the Force is well positioned to perform its duties.
The acting IGP pledged the loyalty of the Police management team to the Commission and promised a cordial and fruitful relationship for the optimal effectiveness and efficiency of the Force.
