Professor Barth Nnaji Nigeria’s minister of Power has resigned his appointment today.Reports said President Goodluck Jonathan has accepted his resignation. But there were hints within labour circles that the minister may have been forced to quit under pressure.Details were however sketchy.
Though it was not exactly clear why he ‘resigned’ suddenly it is an open secret that the Ministry has been at loggerheads with the workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria,PHCN whose unions have had running battles with the minister.
One of the cardinal worries of the workers is the recent multimillion dollar transmission management contract awarded to a company which seems like a front to some officials.Workers have also been at war of late over severance package which the minister appeared bent on forcing upon them.
The workers have always seen Nnaji has an ‘ interested and involved person’ who ought not to have been made Minister of power in the first place.
