Members of the clergy have been warned not to involve themselves in partisan politics but rather remain intercessors for the nation and its people rather than involve the church in the political intrigues.
This warning was made by Pastor Joshua Ijachi, of the Grace Tower Parish, Redeemem Christian Church of God (RCCG), Abuja, who condemned what he termed the politisation of the church.
According to him, the church was supposed to be an advisory body and also intercessor and not for power or gain seeking.
Pastor Ijachi who is also the president of Christian Youth Network of Nigeria, also condemned the nocturnal activities between the leadership of the church and major political parties maintaining that it is “another boko haram in the making that must be checkmated”.
He gave the warning this afternoon at a press briefing in reaction to the consultation held between General Muhammadu Buhari ,the APC presidential flag bearer and the General Overseer of the RCCG, Bishop Enoch Adeboye. Buhari reportedly contacted Adeboye before presenting Professor Osinbajo as his running mate on Wednesday.
He further warned that the church should not be allowed to become an extension of any political party in the country, stating that “the signs ahead of 2015 are not clear should the church which is the body of Christ (be) allowed to sink and stink”.
But the Pastor’s fury over Buhari’s romance could be described as amazing because many had tried to falsely project Buhari as an Islamic fundamentalist, an allegation the General has repeatedly declared was unfair.
