Ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, Senate President Senator David Mark has harped on free, fair, transparent and credible polls as the safeguard for a sustainable democracy in Nigeria.
Senator Mark however expressed optimism that Nigerians have been sensitised and enlightened enough to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections on Saturday.
Addressing his constituents in Otukpo, Benue state at the end of his 2015 campaign tour , on Tuesday, Senator Mark urged all stakeholders to play according to the rules and ultimately allow the will of the people to prevail.
So far; he noted that Nigerians have imbibed democratic tenet and accepted same as the preferred form of government that is participatory and representative.
According to Mark: “As we embark on another major election, let us be guided by national interest and hold on tenaciously on all that brings peace and unity amongst us as a people.
” l make bold to say that this election is key to the development, peace and unity of Nigeria. Our destiny and indeed our future is in our hands.”
He noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made enough landmark in terms of the delivery of dividends of democracy that would earn the party victory at the polls.
Mark therefore told his people to remain steadfast with the PDP as the vehicle for a better future of the nation.
He promised not to fail his people no matter the odds saying ” l will continue to give quality representation and be prepared to do all that is necessary to serve. I cherish the confidence repose in me . I will not take it for granted”.
All the traditional rulers in Benue South Senatorial zone led the Ochi Idoma HRH, Elias ikoyi Obekpa ii endorsed the candidature of Mark to return to the Senate.
