Secretary of the Kaduna Restoration Group, Professor Yusuf Dankofa has commended the bravery of journalists attacked in Kaduna when a press briefing was being held by the group in collaboration with APC Akida at the state’s Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat recently.
He expressed this when his group visited the NUJ Secretariat to commiserate with its members over the attack.
He said it was very unfortunate that the Police failed in doing their duty of protecting them, even in the face of such unprovoked attack, leaving the journalists with no option but to brace up and push the attackers back.
Professor Dankofa said “We are here to condemn the attack by enemies of progress and undemocratic elements. It is strange that some people will come out and support such a barbaric act.
” As harbingers of good governance, we stand to correct that. The sanctity of the media which is the fourth estate of the realm must not be eroded,” he said.
Dankofa who is a Professor of Law vowed that the Restoration Group will collaborate with relevant security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators do not go unpunished.
In his speech, Chairman NUJ Kaduna Council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf said that the journalists are neutral and they will continue to carry out their functions based on rules and regulations.
