The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) has urged the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development to increase the number of players to represent Nigeria at the World Team Championships.

Ishaku Tikon, the NTTF president, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that the federation wanted the ministry to review its earlier approval of four athletes only.

“We are appealing to the ministry for the number of team participants to increase, because the approval that was given was only for two male and two female players.

“This number cannot form a team and so we want them to review the initial approval they gave, to allow at least five male and four female players.

“Though the female side will not be taking part in the world stage for failing to compete in the 2016 ITTF Africa Championships in Morocco, but they will roll the ball only in the singles event,’’ he said.

Tikon added that the federation would ensure that the team perform well for the country to be able to participate in future events.

The world championships is billed for Halmstad in Sweden in April.(NAN)
