This week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting will not hold due to inadequate time to prepare the documents for the meeting, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has announced.
In a statement issued in Kano on Tuesday, the Minister said the two-day public holidays declared for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations left little or no time to prepare for the weekly meeting.
The cancellation of this week’s FEC meeting was unexpected as it was announced on a day the National Bureau of Statistics released a report which said Nigeria’s economy had emerged from recession .
This announcement was followed by excitement within official circles. Perhaps the cabinet will use this one week break to do a further study of the NBS report.
There is also the fear of cabinet reshuffle which has been a lingering issue without any official confirmation yet.President Muhammadu Buhari appears to have resolved to stick to his ministers and inner circle officials despite wild speculations in the media.
Will the president unleash the long knife now? Only time will tell.
