NLC hosts African Trade Unions in Abuja

Ayuba Wabba  cThe Human and Trade Union Rights Network of the International Trade Union Confederation, African Region, will hold a two day planning meeting in Abuja from Monday 27 to Tuesday 28 July, 2015 in Abuja, Nigeria.

 

NLC secretary General ,Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson said in a statement that the meeting is part of the preparation process for the 3rd Congress of ITUC-Africa which will be held later in the year in Dakar, Senegal.

 

The meeting will discuss ongoing campaigns on Tax Justice issues, security and safety at the workplace in relation to growing violence from terrorism and civil conflicts, as well as Migration. The meeting will also discuss actions to be taken by African trade unions to follow up the 2015 International Labour Conference (ILC) with a view to take forward conclusions from the conference.

 

It will also review the state of human and trade union rights in African countries especially the deepening human and trade union rights violations in Swaziland, where the state has continued to attack trade unions and their officials.

 

Also the meeting will be attended by delegates from Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Benin Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Chad, South Africa, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Eritrea, Swaziland, Niger, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Nigeria and representatives of some Global Union Federations.
