The President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Abdulwahed Ibrahim Omar has commended the outgoing Labour Attache to the Embassy of the United States of America, Mr. Brant Beyer for his close working relationship with the NLC and its affiliates during his two years tour of duty in Nigeria.
The NLC President said this during a reception organised by the congress in honour of the outgoing Labour Attache and held at the headquarters of the NLC in Abuja on Friday, 1st August 2014.
The reception was attended by leaders of unions affiliated to the NLC as well as the Country Programme Director of the American Centre for International Labour Solidarity, popularly known as The Solidarity Center, Mr. Chris Johnson.
Comrade Omar thanked the Labour Attache for facilitating a bilateral relationshionship with the American Federation of Labour and also for his support during the struggles for the current National Minimum Wage. He recalled that the outgoing Labour Attache was with congress during sessions with the National Assembly and this brought out international dimensions to the struggle.
“Mr. Beyer successfully linked us up with the American society and our participation at the African Leaders Summit, which will hold this month, is not without his strong input”, Comrade Omar said.
Mr. Brant Beyer, the outgoing Labour Attache, thanked the NLC and its affiliates for giving him maximum cooperation throughout his stay in the country and expressed his hope that this will be extended to his successor.
The President of NLC presented him with gifts on behalf of Nigerian workers.
An acting Labour Attache, Dan Joyce, who is a Political Officer at the embassy, has since resumed duties.
