The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued an air Operator Certificate,AOC to a new airline, Discovery Air.
Presenting the document to the airline in Lagos, the acting director general of NCAA, Engr. Benedict Adeyileka said the new entrant had met the minimum safety requirements to commence scheduled flights.
He said he was comfortable with the airline during the certification exercise. Adeyileka also said that airline operators are critical to air safety and called for a harmonious working relationship with the regulator to engender a safer airspace.
He added that NCAA would support all the domestic airlines in the country and charged them to always remit promptly the five percent tax collected on behalf of NCAA to avoid sanctions.
In his response, the chairman of Discovery Air, Mr. Babatunde Babalola, expressed appreciation to the regulatory agency’s management and pledged that the airline would adhere strictly to safety procedures.
Babalola who admitted that it was herculean to go through the certification process also announced that the airline would commence its maiden scheduled flights next
week.
“The airline will start operations with two Boeing 737 aircraft and will keep adding up. From our base in Lagos, we will operate to Abuja, Port Harcourt and later to Uyo and Yola. We will also operate to the West Coast in due course,” he added.
