Nigeria’s President elect General Muhammadu Buhari has pledged in Abuja that his government will reopen probe into the missing $20billion scandal. He spoke while receiving a delegation of All Progressives Congress,APC stalwarts led by the governor elect Alhaji Jibrilla Bindow from Adamawa on Sunday.
According to Buhari “since this (missing fund) was documented, the new administration will take a lot at it.”This is a major shift from his earlier pledge not to probe the past and a clear indication that Buhari will indeed tackle corruption headlong.
He said further, “You all know what the Emir of Kano talked about this when he was the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria when he said $20 billion US dollars not naira, $20 billion US dollars was unaccounted for. They said it was a lie, instead of investigating it they sacked him.”Interesting the General said “And God in his infinite mercy made him the emir of Kano, in any case that is what he wanted.”
General Buhari confirmed that he has heard rumours of alleged return of huge sums of money to the state coffers by outgoing and former government officials: “I heard that some people have started returning money; I will not believe it until I go and see for myself”,the president elect said.
He also acknowledged that unemployment was the “biggest problem we have in Nigeria today because of this, apart from security challenges the next thing is to find jobs for our youths. Our youth’s form 60 percent of our population in Nigeria. Without jobs these people who are still bubbling with energy will constitute a danger for this nation. If our youths don’t get jobs we will not enjoy our stay in this nation.
Speaking on the hydra-headed Boko Haram terror,Buhari prayed and expressed the hope that his regime will end the menace: “I said it earlier, all the religions we practice and both Islam and Christianity do not support terrorism. It is our hope that God gives us the power to end this.”
