Mark Mourns As General Adekunle ‘Black Scorpion’ Dies in Lagos

black scorpionBrig.-Gen Benjamin Adekunle (retd) has died today reports said.He died aged 78 in Lagos.General Adekunle popularly called “Black Scorpion” played a prominent role in Nigeria civil war .
President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has mourned the death of the Nigerian Civil war hero, Brig. Gen. Benjamin Adekunle (rtd) describing him as one Nigerian who fought vehemently to keep the nation as a united and indivisible country.
In a condolence message to the immediate family, government and the people of Oyo State, Senator Mark said the Ogbomosho born Retired General was a success in all ramifications of his military career.
He recalled in nostalgia the role late Adekunle played during the Civil war, noting that, “He led the Third Marine Commando Division with such great panache and determination and precision.=
“He was a father, a brother, a substantive army General and a patriotic Nigerian. We are pained at the news of his death.” Mark said.
Senator Mark urged his family to remain united and dedicated in the service of God and humanity stressing that these were the attributes the deceased was known for during his lifetime.
“Even in death, Nigerians will forever be grateful for the services Late Adekunle rendered for the nation’s unity.” Mark noted.
He called on the Federal Government and the Oyo State government to immortalise the late General popularly called, “Black Scorpion” as a morale booster to our service men who are placed in harm’s way for us to have a peaceful nation.
