President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has urged warring factions in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to close ranks and work together in order to effectively implement the programmes of the Party including the transformation agenda.
Senator Mark said the incessant squabbles in the party was unhealthy and capable of derailing the laudable programmes of the party.Mark was speaking when he played host to the Chief Tony Anenih led Board of Trustees (BOT) of the PDP in his office in Abuja yesterday.
He also requested for the inclusion of members of the National Assembly in the PDP’s National Executive Committee(NEC) saying that as the elected representatives of the people ” we have meaningful contributions to make”.
Senator Mark noted that the lawmakers are true patriots who committed on making good laws that reflects the state of the Nigerian people.
“The National Assembly is the engine room of democracy and the government and therefore deserves a pride of place in the scheme of things.”
Senator Mark however pledged the commitment of the National Assembly to continue to work for the peace, unity and progress of the nation.
Earlier, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees appreciated the members of the National Assembly for making good laws for peace and order that continued to keep Nigeria together In spite of current challenges.
Chief Anenih dismissed the agitation for the convocation of sovereign conference because nothing can be more sovereign than the election of senators and members of the House of Representatives making up the National Assembly.
He told them to remain steadfast and committed to the ideals of nation hood saying that everything legitimate must be done to keep Nigeria one.
Other issues discussed at the parley included party affairs, executive/legislature relationship as well as security challenges facing the nation.
