The Katsina State Government said it has recently absorbed into the civil service no fewer than 867 graduatres out of the 5,000 engaged under its temporary employment programme tagged S-Power.

The S-Power programme was introduced in 2018 to engage mostly NCE holders to teach in schools and were placed on a monthly stipend of N20,000 for a period of two years.

Malam Lawal Buhari, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Education Board, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura on Saturday.

He said that the 867 graduates would receive their letters of appointment as permanent and pensionable teachers by Tuesday next week.

The executive chairman explained that their absorption into the civil service was based on their exceptional performance while serving as S-Power volunteers.

He added that the government would soon engage another set of 867 youth for the S-Power programme to replace those offered permanent employment.

According to him,  Gov. Aminu Masari was satisfied with the performance of teachers under the S-Power scheme.

He said the newly  recruited teachers would be deployed to primary schools across the 34 local government areas in the state.

“We would in due course expand the scope to accommodate more of them, but only those who proved their capability through commitment and dedication to duty,” Buhari added.(NAN)
