The All Progressives Congress(APC) has swept the polls in the rescheduled Chairmanship elections in Chikun Local Government area of the State.
Returning Officer (RO) for the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM), Dr. Sani Mohammed declared the results of the rescheduled elections Wednesday, at the Local government secretariat.
He announced that the APC polled 52,660 while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 28,198.
Analysis of the result reveals that the APC is ahead of the PDP with 24,462 votes.
Supporters of the winner, Mr. Maikai Adamu variously described their candidate’s victory as “the will of God”, while a cross-section of respondents among the fans of the PDP candidate Mr. Salasi Nuhu told newsmen that the most striking thing about the election was that it was violence free.
The Chairman of APC in Chikun Local Government, who spoke to newsmen after the announcement of the chairmanship results expressed happiness over the use of electronic voting machine, saying “we never thought that smaller political parties like APGA and a host of others have a chance to win a single vote. It’s thanks to the fairness upheld by the use of the e-voting machines.”
The Chikun Local Government chairmanship election was rescheduled following the announcement by SIECOM officials on 12th May, 2018 that it was “inconclusive”, necessitating the electoral umpire to invoke constitutional provisions on the matter.
An enthusiastic election monitoring official in the Local Government, Moses Dangana told newsmen that “electronic voting machine is so special and I wonder why all these years we’ve not been using it, to stop electoral malpractices”.
