Famous youth mobilizer, Mr Daniel Kanu was among various sports personalities and officials at the physical training exercise and rally in support of President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja Saturday.
Kanu who is renowned for the Youth Earnestly Ask for Abacha campaign has also declared support for President Jonathan’s second term bid.
A statement from Kanu’s office made available to Newsdiaryonline said “At the sports rally organized today 7th March, 2015 by the National Sports Community; Daniel Kanu, Founder of Body Builders Association of Nigeria, (BBAN) and also Chairman of Daniel Kanu Fitness Products Limited led his group to support the rally which was billed to drum up support for President Goodluck Jonathan second term in office.
“The President during his speech pledged that during his second term in office, he will create intervention fund to boost the sports sector. The Sports Intervention Fund will be used to encourage grassroots sports by supporting private sector management of sports facilities, support retired athletes, promote education amongst athletes to prepare them for life after competition, pay for recovery of injured athletes; sponsor more sports competitions and etc.
“Daniel Kanu applauded Mr. President’s pledge towards the promotion of the sports sector, as this falls squarely into the programmes which Kanu has been advocating through the sponsorship of the Federal Capital Football League through the Daniel Kanu Youth Foundation over the last 8 years.
“And members of the Body Builders Association of Nigeria were full of praises for Mr. President’s commitment towards their chosen field of athletics. Therefore, they vowed to campaign and vote for the president in his second term quest which they describe as divine”
Furthermore, the statement said “Kanu used the forum to call on all well meaning Nigerians to vote massively for President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as that will guarantee continue growth of the economy and the creation of millions of jobs for the teeming youth population.
“As a Youth Leader, Kanu can easily associate with the plight of the under privileged and sees a vote for Jonathan as a vote for a better future for Nigerian Youths and elders alike.
Also in attendance the statement said were current Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate President Sen. David Mark, and Former Governor Peter Obi, serving Ministers, members of National Assembly, and former members of the Nigerian Football Team, the Super Eagles, and others.
