In preparation for the Ondo State Governorship election set for November 16, 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that political parties and candidates will sign a Peace Accord on Friday, November 8, 2024.
The event, which will be led by the National Peace Committee under former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, aims to foster peaceful conduct among candidates and ensure a fair and violence-free election.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, shared this update during the commission’s fourth quarterly consultative meeting with media representatives in Abuja.
He highlighted INEC’s commitment to improved electoral processes, including enhanced voter accreditation, media and observer engagement, and transparent result management through the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.
Yakubu acknowledged the vital role of the media in promoting accurate, responsible coverage, urging them to counter misinformation and support peaceful electoral campaigns.
Preparations for the Ondo election continue as INEC coordinates with security agencies and stakeholders to address potential security concerns and ensure efficient logistics. With 112 accredited media organizations and over 700 personnel set to cover the election, INEC is focused on providing an open, accessible election experience for all involved.
