Zuru (Kebbi State), Jan. 29, 2019 (NAN) The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reached pact with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on the transportation of election officials in Kebbi
Alhaji Ahmed Bello, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in kebbi state, made this known during a sensitisation campaign in Zuru, Zuru Local Government Area on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sensitisation campaign on proper voting procedure was organised by the Kebbi Development Forum (KDF)
Bello, represented by Deputy Director, Voter Education, Alhaji Adamu Musa, said that physically challenged people and pregnant women would be treated with respect and special consideration during the general election.
“These people have right to seek for guidance during election from their relatives but not from political party agents,” he said.
The REC warned the electorate against all forms of electoral vices, including vote buying and selling during the elections.
He said INEC had taken steps to curtail any form of ugly incident during the election.
Earlier, the Chairman of the KDF, Prof. Sahabi Mahuta, said the aim of the sensitisation campaign was to educate the people on proper voting procedures to avoid invalid votes.
“As a development forum, we deem it as part of our responsibilities to ensure that leaders are elected through the right means.
“We are not a party, we are not incline to any party, we believe that the only way to have an informed electorate is to provide voter education,” he said.
He urged participants at the campaign to pass on the message to members of their communities to ensure an informed voting public.
“Tell those yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so, also teach them the procedures we have unveiled to you today.
“Our intention is to have a voting public that is equipped to exercise their civic responsibility with the aim of enthroning credible leadership.”(NAN)
