The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have jointly denied the report that the Sokoto and Kebbi borders have been closed by the federal government.
Newsdiaryonline reporter, among a team of other Journalists who followed-up a recent report by a national daily that the federal government had ordered the closure of the borders in the two states, gathered in Illela on Tuesday that the borders were still in opened.
Mr. Agbetuye Peter, the officer in charge of the Customs office at the post said: “As you can see, the border post have not been closed. You can see that we are on duty. We have not received directives from the federal government to close the border.
Corroborating, the NIS officer-in-charge, Mr. Toyin Saka said that “the report is a rumour and baseless. At least, you can see our men on duty now, it isn’t it?”
At the Illela border post, Newsdiaryonline sited officials of Department of Security Services (DSS), Police, Port Health, National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Standard organization of Nigeria (SON), National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), etc.
