There have been reports of huge explosions outside Maiduguri , Borno state capital Friday night as Nigerian military battled Boko Haram terrorist
Danlami Ajaokuta ,a vigilante has been quoted by AFP as saying ,”Hordes of Boko Haram gunmen are currently locked in fierce battle with Nigerian troops in Zabarmari village, 10 kilometres (six miles) outside Maiduguri”
“We have been hearing huge explosions coming from Zabarmari since 8:00 pm (1900 GMT) as troops fought to push back Boko Haram gunmen who are trying to invade the city,” he said further.
Ajaokuta said “There have so far been more than 10 explosions,” just as scared residents of Zabarmari have been fleeing to Maiduguri
He also told AFP that the civilian vigilante were “on alert and ready for any eventuality”
Another resident of the city,Zanna Shehuri, told AFP,”The city is tense following news that Boko Haram are now in Zabarmari trying to come into Maiduguri but are are facing stiff resistance from soldiers,” he said.
According to him ,”From here we can hear explosions coming from the direction of Zabarmari. I spoke to my cousin who lives there on the phone and he told me he and his family are on their way to Maiduguri. He said everybody was fleeing the village.”
Despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to subdue the terrorists, Boko Haram have continued to launch so far unsuccessful attacks aimed at coming into Maiduguri.The terrorist have however succeeded in detonating suicide bombs within and outside Maiduguri.
Over 120 people were reportedly killed in varying attacks in the state in the last few days.
