In the political history of Nigeria, the 2019 presidential campaign will rank as the most low keyed and least colourful. This may not be unconnected to the austere campaign run and encouraged by President Muhammadu Buhari, PMB who warned that government resources should not be deployed for his re election.
However, an independent campaign organization, Forward With Buhari, FWB introduced panache and verve to spice up the president’s campaign. The group led by Senator Lawal Shaibu , deputy national chairman (North) of the ruling All Progressives Congress,APC ran a campaign across the length and breath of the country in an unusual way.
According to Shaibu, the FWB comprises youthful grassroots mobilizers and canvassers from across the country who campaigned tirelessly for the re-election of the president. Senator Shaibu noted that the tactics was to take over the political space for campaign, enlightenement and education of the electorate after the Presidential campaign council must have finished with the grand rally in every state of the federation.
“We did this by embarking on road shows with branded luxury buses, stopping in market square, places and strategic locations to educate and convince the people on the need to vote for Buhari based on his remarkable achievements so far. In the process we also distribute campaign materials like fez cap, T-shirt and pamphlet to the people.”
From the interaction with the people, the FWB leader believes victory is assured for the president in the coming presidential election on February 23, 2019.
