According to Anyanwu, the event, titled “The Impact of Transparency and Accountability on Sub-National Development in North Central Nigeria,” will take place from Thursday, October 7th to Friday, October 8th, 2024, at Sandralia Hotel Limited in Abuja.

“The retreat is expected to gather key stakeholders from the North-Central region, including state finance commissioners, budget and economic planning officials, debt management officers, auditors-general, and representatives from anti-corruption institutions.

“The event will also include civil society organizations (CSOs) and other fiscal responsibility advocates.

“Participants will engage in discussions and interactive sessions led by prominent experts from the legal, academic, and fiscal sectors.

“Key topics to be covered include the role of transparency in attracting investments, the importance of money bills in improving public finance management, and a deeper understanding of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

“Additionally, the retreat will address the role of emotional intelligence in fiscal management, emphasizing its impact on effective governance,” Anyanwu stated.

He stated that the retreat is part of a nationwide series of sensitization events organized by the FRC, with similar programs having already taken place in other geopolitical zones including the North-East, South-West, South-South, and South-East regions.

“The overarching goal is to empower subnational governments to adopt transparent practices, optimize resources, and improve service delivery for the citizens of Nigeria,” he stated.
