Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), an NGO, has urged Christians and Muslims in Nigeria to use the Yuletide to strengthen unity and friendliness amongst them.

The Northern Coordinators of the foundation, Rev. Joseph Hayab and Sheikh Maraya, made the appeal in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Kaduna.

“GPFN appeals to the devotees of the prominent faiths in the country to recognise the common origin of their beliefs and treat one another as members of one family under God,’’ it said.

They also advised that the Christian faithful to focus on appreciating Jesus’ personality and essence during the celebration.

“Christians should evoke the teaching of the Bible which instructs them to `rejoice with those who celebrate and mourn with those who grieve’ and display love and good deeds this Christmas and beyond.

“In the spirit of the Yuletide, GPFN appeals to those in government and authority to take practical steps to lessen the pains Nigerians are going through as such a move could consolidate the gains of peace that we currently enjoy,” the statement said. (NAN)
