Residents of Zamfara have expressed excitement over President Muhammadu Buhari’s condolence visit to the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Buhari’s visit the state on Thursday to condole the people of the area followed recent bandit’s attacks in some communities of Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas.

NAN further reports that large crowd of residents, especially members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), from the 14 local government areas, stormed Gusau, the state capital, waiting for the President’s arrival.

A cross section of the residents who spoke to NAN over the visit expressed their happiness on what they described as a great concern to the state, especially the victims of banditry activities.

Aminu Yusha’u from Gwashi community in Bukkuyum LGA, in Gusau commended the Federal Government for the ongoing military operations in the area.

“Our communities in the last one week witnessed military operations in all the bandit’s camps in Bukkuyum LGA.

“We are praying for their success, we really appreciate the government’s concern towards addressing security challenges facing our area,’’ Yusha’u said.

Bashir Jabaka from Maru LGA noted that the visit shows that Zamfara people are in the President’s heart.

“We are therefore expecting fruitful results from the visit in addressing lingering security challenges facing the state,’’ Jabaka said.

Also speaking to NAN, the state Publicity Secretary of All Progressive Congress (APC), Yusuf Idris, described the presidential visit as `a timely and welcome development’.

Idris noted that the visit may have connection with the recent efforts of the APC-led state government under Gov. Bello Matawalle.

“You know, Gov. Matawalle recently visited Niger Republic with the directive of Mr President where he carried out some assignments towards addressing security challenges not only in Zamfara but in the whole North Western states,’’ he said.

According to him, the presidential visit came at the right time as it will give more happiness not only to victims of banditry but the entire people of the state.

Alhaji Nura Magaji, also a resident of Gusau, noted that Mr President was supposed to be in Zamfara earlier than now.

“I think President Buhari is supposed to be in Zamfara since several violent incidents happened, but despite that, the visit will encourage people of the state, especially the victims of recent bandit’s attacks.

“We need more action in military deployment to the state and other security measures towards finding solutions to the security challenges facing our communities daily,’’ Magaji explained.

NAN reports that up to the time of filing this report, President Buhari is yet to arrive the state as he is currently in Sokoto commissioning the Bua Cement Company. (NAN)
