Reports reaching our newsroom said the Peoples Democratic Party has recalled Governor Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto State back to the party.
A correspondent said PDP National Chairman,Bamanga Tukur “personally confirmed the recall of the Sokoto State Governor.” He was suspended about two weeks ago in what was described as a strange wave rocking the party.
But the remained silent about the fate of Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi who was the first sitting governor to be dramatically suspended by the party.Amaechi was suspended days after winning reelection as chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
The suspension of Amaechi and Wamakko led to further tension within the party.Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state described the suspension of the two governors as a blunder in a BBC Hausa Service interview. That was the first major hint that except urgent steps were taken, the party’s crisis might worsen.
Insiders have blamed the crisis rocking the party on the national chairman. But some others have suggested that President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 reelection bid is a more critical factor rocking the party.
Also last weekend ,opposition ACN spokesman ,Lai Mohammed reportedly hinted that at least 23 governors have already agreed to join the opposition merger party APC.
